When Bricking Solutions began the distribution of the Brokk tear-out machine
it became obvious that we need to find a faster way to remove the debris
from the kiln. The Brokk was so fast at tearing out the brick the problem
then shifted to the removal of debris.
The Problem:
Removing debris became the number one reason for slowing down the
production of the tear-out process. We looked into the many means of
removing debris and found the best method was the use of a skid steer
loader with bucket. Our next idea was to design a bucket that could
take the punishment and be productive.
The Solution:
Our first goal was to determine the proper lower radius of the bucket.
The bucket radius needed to work for all the different kiln diameters
in the marketplace. After settling that issue we concentrated of the
lead edge radius, which we found to be as important as the lower radius.
A flat leading edge required the loader operator to accelerate into
the pile of debris. This resulted in a problem for the operator because
the impact created fatigue, along with shoulder and hand injuries. The
other drawback was that it was hard on the machine. Consequently we
determined the leading edge must be radiused and made of T-1 steel.
We also included the option of installing bucket teeth on the leading
edge. The final phase was to come up with a standard mounting bracket
that would be able to mount the bucket onto any skid steer loader. The
ending result was a smooth operating bucket that could slice through
the debris and get the material out of the kiln to free up the tear
out machine to continue its job of taking down the brick or coating.
Justification:
-
Increase the speed of refractory removal
-
Less wear and tear on operator and machine
-
Bucket will last many years
