As
this is an industry full of technical jargon, we provide this growing
glossary of terms in hopes to insure a clear line of communication.
A
Access Ramps
Light-weight heavy duty ramp used to span the opening caused by the
cooler between the burn floor and the kiln opening.
B
Brick Alignment
It is critical to have brick aligned perpendicular to the kiln access
to prevent brick failure due to spiraling.
Bricking Machine
A mechanical device to facilitate the installation of brick in a
rotary kiln.
Bricking Machine Trailer Option
A device added to a standard bricking machine that increases the
scaffold capacity and the work area on the rig.
Brokk AB
Manufacturer of the Brokk tear-out machine and parent company of
Bricking Solutions.
C
Circle of Refractory Maintenance
Quality rotary kiln refractory maintenance revolves around easy access,
rapid tear out, and efficient installation. If any part of this circle
is missing, you’re losing valuable days of production. At Bricking
Solutions, our goal is to minimize kiln downtime by creating products
that improve the safety, speed and quality of every step in your maintenance
process. With the Bricking Solutions maintenance system, your kiln
is back on line sooner and turning profits longer.
Cooler
Cools the molten klinker as it spills out the end of the rotary kiln.
Cutting Refractory
Bricks never fit exactly requiring modification of the standard brick
size by cutting.
D
Debricking
The tearing out of old or damaged brick in a rotary kiln.
Downtime
The amount of time that a cement or lime plant is out of production.
E
F
G
H
Hood
The structure covering the cooler at the end of a kiln.
Hood Door
Allows access to the cooler or the kiln.
I
J
Jacking Brick
Radial pressure on the brick in a rotary kiln to assure a tight fit
to the kiln shell.
K
Keying Brick
When installing brick, it is the final brick put in place to ensure
tightness of the ring of brick in the rotary kiln.
Kiln
A large round steel pipe lined with brick with a burner device installed
in the front end for the purpose of processing cement or lime.
Kiln Maintenance Costs
The cost to maintain a cement or lime kiln annually such as the cost
of refractory, labor, mechanical and electrical systems, and lost
production.
Kiln Relining
The replacement of worn or damaged brick with new brick.
L
Lining Repair
Temporary repair of lining with castables or with plastics.

P
PDF Format
A document format requiring a reader program to access.
Pneumat-O-Ring International
The prior name of Bricking Solutions.
Pogo-Stick Bricking Machine
A scaffold with a wood or metal center from which spring loaded sticks
are used to hold brick into place.
Q
R
Radialign
The "Radialign" laser alignment device insures that refractory
is installed perpendicular to the axis of the kiln.
Refractory
Masonry of various chemical properties used to reflect heat.
Refractory Saw
A specialty saw used to cut refractory typically using a diamond
blade using either a dry or wet process.
Rotary Kiln
A kiln specially designed for the cement or lime industry to rotate
in the production process to mix the material and provide more unified
heating. See Kiln.
S
Safety Cage
A protective see-through cage to protect workers from falling debris
inside a rotary kiln with performing an inspection or temporary repairs
